Affordable Nambour tops the list |

CORAL and James Sutton have no qualms agreeing that Nambours low living costs make the town among the states most comfortable to retire. Coral, 73, and James, 78 who retired to Nambour three years ago from their Kenilworth farm said the lower cost of living and service availability were the two main factors in their decision to move to the town. In fact, December 2004 figures show Nambour is the second cheapest Queensland town to comfortably retire after Emerald, in central Queensland. |

Nambour and excitement are two words that don’t seem to belong together. The town that was once the commercial heart of the Sunshine Coast has been on a downward path for the best part of two decades, with the sugar mill closure almost four years ago regarded by some as signalling the last rites. The $20 million redevelopment of Nambour Plaza was predicted to be the saviour of the town’s retail sector with figures showing as much as $40 million-a-year in escape spending heading to centres like Sunshine Plaza. |
